Laboratory of Biochemistry

Our goal is to discover new drugs by clarifying the higher-order functions of acidic organelles involved in the onset of disease.

We mammals are composed of a wide variety of highly differentiated cells. These cells are particularly differentiated in morphology and function, and through cooperation of the functions entrusted to these cells, the higher-order individual functions displayed by higher organisms are realized. Endosome-lysosomal acidic organelles are directly involved in the manifestation of these differentiation traits. Additionally, the function of endosome-lysosomal acidic organelles has been garnering attention as a mechanism for negatively-controlled signal transduction in the signal transduction pathway. In this laboratory, in addition to clarifying the function of acidic organelle at the molecular level for early outbreak, immune control, and bone metabolism by fully utilizing the creation and analysis of knockout mice, and transgenesis experiments into cultured cells, our aim is to utilize these results for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and drug discovery.
