- Joseph Hardy Neesima establishes Doshisha Academy.
- 1876
- Alice J. Starkweather and Yae Neesima open a school for girls at the Davis residence (formerly the Yanagihara residence) within Kyoto Imperial Palace Park.
- 1877
- Doshisha Bunko Nyokoba is established. (Principal: Joseph Hardy Neesima)
Renamed Doshisha Girls’ School. - 1878
- Campus moves into new buildings in the 11th ward of Kamigyo on Imadegawa Street.
- 1912
- Specialized divisions (English Literature and Home Economics) are established under the College Law.
- 1930
- Doshisha Girls’ School is renamed Doshisha Women’s College. (Principal: Michi Matsuda)
- 1949
- Under the new national educational system, Doshisha Women’s College ends and Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Liberal Arts (English, Music, and Food Science majors) is established. (President: Esther L. Hibbard)
- 1952
- Food Science major is renamed Home Economics major.
- 1965
- Faculty of Liberal Arts majors are restructured as the departments of English, Music, and Home Economics.
- 1967
- Department of Home Economics is dissolved, and the Faculty of Home Economics is newly established (Faculty of Home Economics, Faculty of Food established).
Graduate School of Literary Studies, English literature major (master's program) is established. - 1968
- Graduate School of Home Economics, Food Science major (master’s program) is established.
- 1969
- Food Studies and Dietetics Supervision majors are established in the Department of Food Studies, Faculty of Home Economics.
- 1975
- Graduate School of Literary Studies, English major (doctoral program) is established.
- 1986
- Tanabe Campus is established.
Doshisha Women’s Junior College (Departments of English and Japanese Language and Literature) is established.
Department of Music moves to Tanabe Campus. - 1988
- First and Second year students in the Department of English are moved to Tanabe Campus.
- 1989
- Department of Japanese Language and Literature is established in the Faculty of Liberal Arts.
- 1991
- Department of English moves to Tanabe Campus.
- 1994
- Renamed the Department of English Literature, Faculty of Liberal Arts to the Department of English.
- 1995
- Faculty of Home Economics, departments of Home Economics and Food Studies, and Food Studies major are renamed as Faculty of Human Life and Science, Department of Human Life Studies, Department of Food Sciences and Nutrition, and Food Science major.
- 1996
- Music Performance and Music Culture major are established in the Department of Music.
- 1997
- Japanese Studies major (master’s program) is established in the Graduate School of Literary Studies
- 1998
- English Literature major in the Graduate School of Literary Studies is renamed English major.
- 1999
- Graduate School of Home Economics, Food Science major is renamed Graduate School of Human Life and Science, Food Science and Nutrition Studies M major.

- Faculty of Contemporary Social Studies, Department of Social System Studies is established
Japanese Studies major (doctoral program) is established in the Graduate School of Literary Studies. - 2002
- Department of Information and Media is established in the Faculty of Liberal Arts.

- Doshisha Women’s Junior College is closed.
- 2004
- Department of Childhood Studies is established in the Faculty of Contemporary Social Studies.
International Social System Studies major (master’s program) is established in the Graduate school of International Social System Studies. - 2005
- Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Clinical Pharmacy is established.
- 2007
- Department of International Studies is established in the Faculty of Liberal Arts.
- 2008
- Information and Culture Studies major (master’s program) is established in the Graduate School of Literary Studies, and Life Style Design Studies major (master’s program) is established in the Graduate School of Human Life and Science.
- 2009
- Department of English and Department of Japanese Language and Literature in the Faculty of Liberal Arts move to Imadegawa Campus, establishing the Faculty of Culture and Representation.
- 2012
- Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences major (doctoral program) is established.
- 2013
- Postgraduate Certificate Program in Music is established.

- Department of Nursing is established in the Faculty of Nursing.

- 140th founding anniversary
